We gave to the Save "Blue Like Jazz" Movie campaign because of the book's impact on our lives and because "Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way."

I Was Upset
...that the guy didn't hear Cliff say "large" when we ordered chili cheese tots at Sonic, that I couldn't find any tissue to blow my nose with, that my throat was dry and itchy and has been causing coughing fits all day, and that there wasn't enough vanilla in my vanilla coke.
And then by way of FlowerDust, I happened upon this video:
Perspective isn't the word... I feel small.
I am grieving and wishing that I didn't have to run to the grocery store less than a mile away from our apartment in just a few minutes because on every box, down every aisle, in every cart, I will see the images of children just like Sam and Esther and know how little I am doing.
I want to do more.

Feeding Starving Children
I just participated in two hours of minimal work that will change the lives of three hundred and eighty-two children for a year. That is incredible. Nearly 450 (in the third of four shifts) people took a small amount of time out of their day in a way that can make a big difference in the lives of children. On this particular day, children in Thailand. And this shift is just a glimpse of all that has happened today - their goal was to pack 400,000 meals and by the time 5:30 PM rolled around, there were over 313,000 packed with one shift left to go!
Feed My Starving Children is a unique organization in the approach they take to fighting starvation in third world countries. A balanced and nutritious meal for six is packaged and boxed by volunteers (only) and shipped to a number of private organizations working in small communities all across the world. I would encourage you, if you are ever presented the opportunity to be a part of what they do... do it.

I Need Africa
Mocha Club, an organization Cliff and I have supported and have had the privilege of working with for a couple of years now, has launched a new campaign today. This campaign reaches me in a place that is hard to describe. Because I know I need Africa.
I feel it in my soul sometimes, when I hear a choir of voices singing. When I look at pictures from my trip. When I remember what it was like to hold the hands of children in a tiny village off a desolate bush road. When I think of drawing my fingers through the dirt and hearing the laughter of tiny voices. When I remember climbing "the hill" to the top of Dar's campus and seeing all of the city in one breathtaking sweep. When I think of the smiles of the students I spent my days with.
Both Cliff and I have seen firsthand the faces and lives full of joy and peace in a land typically thought of as dark and void of life. It is so not that. It is so not anything it's easy to believe it is...
We both recognize that our respective times there with the people of two different countries were more filling for our own souls than we believe we could have ever given.
Anyways, I'll let the campaign speak for itself.

I am sorry...
I have failed to mention anything about this before, on here - but after watching this video, realize I must - even if it reaches the three people that visit here regularly.
A dear friend and mentor of mine, Dane Anthony and his wife Maggie, along with many others, have been working hard for the last four months to no avail to clear his stepson Eric Volz(her son) of a murder he did not commit, in Nicaragua of all places. A shocking blow to the family and the struggle was sent the day they pronounced Eric guilty... I have been keeping tabs on the situation since it began in November and have done my best to pray and educate people.
After watching this video, though, and seeing the emotion and pains of two people I love very much and a man they love very much and being overcome emotion as well... I realize I must do more. Maybe you will join me?
