Why is it that when I set out to do schoolwork over break, it just doesn't happen? It's like, there's a part of my brain that hears "break" and shuts down all academic related functioning capabilities. I have managed to do a lot of things over the last two days, only a portion of which involves schoolwork. The measley amount of evidence I have to show for that is a messy stack of articles on our living room floor and two Word documents with headings and section titles - and that's it.
Break has been productive, though. I folded and hung up the laundry Cliff did over the weekend, went to the gym twice yesterday (once for a pilates class) and once today, picked up the living room (except for the stack, of course), repotted my poor dying herbs into the pot and soil Cliff bought for me over two months ago, swept the porch, ran some pretty normal everday errands, had lunch with Cliff at Maniac's (mmm) today, and went to "Christmas at Belmont" last night.
By the way, Belmont is increasing the value of our bachelors degrees everday it seems. Sure, they really don't have control over the media given to some of its headline-grabbing alums, but still, the last couple of years has moved Belmont from "who-mont?" to "oh, that-mont". It's not Harvard, but it's definitely not the no-name school it felt like when I started there. Tournament worthy men's and women's basketball teams, a handful of well-to-do country artists, an (almost) American Idol, the reigning Miss USA, host site for the CMTs, and now the second site of three of next year's presidential debates.
Last night we sat, surrounded by fellow young alums, in the balcony of the Schermerhorn watching a production we never had the opportunity to see as undergraduates. I must admit, I was very proud to hear and to watch everything. Melinda Doolittle hosted and Paul Leddington Wright was the guest conducter. It was a full two hours of musical magic, with highlights including the performances by Session and Musical Theatre. If you're intersted in watching, the show will air locally with the premier on NPT on December 20, at 8pm (CST) and nationally on PBS on December 24 at 9pm (CST).
Now to end the shameless plugging of our alma mater, I guess I will resume continuing to evade my schoolwork. Cliff's parents are having dinner with us this evening while they are in town for a doctor's appointment, so I guess some more apartment-straightening is in order.

I feel the same way about the degrees increasing in value. More than that, I am so proud to be apart of the small number of Alumni that have graduated from there! It is such a great place, and while you and I already knew that, it is so nice for others to start to see it as well! Go Bruins! (Even if Matt transitioned the GRRRRR out of the cheer after we left. . .sad times).
Wow, to see "Christmas at Belmont" in person...very cool. I believe Grammie and Granpa have tried to catch that on PBS every year since you went there.
