Sara Will Like This

I was perusing GetOutdoors today and saw an update on their blog about an interesting bit of news. The Telegraph UK made a list of their top "favourite" beaches worldwide. A few US beaches made it on the list, which is nice - looks like I've got quite a few new places to see on the life-goal list. However, especially exciting was Cannon Beach" in Oregon coming in at #14.

The first and only (hopefully not last) time I visited Cannon Beach was actually by accident. It was fall of 2004 and I was on a week-long break from school, out visiting the Northwest (wonderful cities, great shows, dear friends) with two of my best friends. We had planned a portion of the trip to rent a car and drive down to Portland for the day (from Seattle, which was our hub for the week) and then drive out to the coast to finish off the day with a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway back into Washington.

Standing on the shores of Cannon Beach was the first time I'd ever actually seen the Pacific Ocean; I remember tearing up the first time I caught sight of it as we drove in on Highway 26. We spent a quiet fall afternoon watching the sun sink into the ocean taking pictures of our feet in the cool Pacific waters. It was a misty, windy day and still so amazing. We didn't quite realize the treasure that Cannon Beach was at the time; I remember the first time someone reacted with sheer bliss at the mention of the place (and humor too, as it was where "Goonies" was filmed).

Oh man, what a fabulous place. Highly deserving of recognition on a list of such exotic and beautiful beaches. I would highly recommend visiting, if you're ever in that area of the world!

Now, if only I could get back there sometime soon...
