After long deliberations (uh duh, we're talking about me here), we've finally taken the plunge we've been so long awaiting.
No, we've not had a baby. (Though Bobby and Emily did have Jackson last night!!!!) No, we've not bought a house. (As you can see, we're lightyears away from that.) And no, we've not gotten a dog. (Or a cat).
We've bought a new camera. A new Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera, to be exact.
Whew, what a decision-making venture this has been.
Cliff has been perfectly happy with his Sony point-and-shoot and I've been mourning the death of my Canon Powershot since our honeymoon (I think it was the heat). Sometime mid-April we started throwing around the idea of getting a new Canon (so that I could finally throw off my proverbial sackcloth and wipe off the ashes) and upgrading to a DSLR. Lordy be, I didn't know how hard of a decision all of this would be.
Because it's not just a question of the camera, but the megapixels, the lenses, the type of image storage it requires (I wanted a trusty old Compact Flash device).
So, again, after far too much time spent researching on the internet (think, cruise tutorial), reading consumer reviews and merchant reviews, and Cliff's blessing to make the final decision, I done made it. And there were even multi-level steps to that. Because once I knew I wanted the XTi, I had to decide if I wanted the sub-part kit lens that comes with it or save some initial dough and go with something that might help make my amateur skills better.
I landed on this one (say it with me, "oooooh") and this one (and again, "aaaaaaah"). For the record, the first is a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and the second is a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. And you could probably care less, right?
The funny thing is, before two weeks ago, I really didn't know what half the numbers and thing-a-ma-bobbers on those things meant. But now I do. And there's a million reasons why I decided on those two, so if you care to know, certainly feel free to ask. I just can't wait to use 'em. Unfortunately, the Tamron will be a little slow in coming thanks to the backorder most reputable merchants have on it. Popular little bugger.
Now, let's just hope I win the bid for this bag on eBay. 'Cause that'd be awesome.

YAY!! You are going to LOVE a DSLR. I hardly go anywhere without mine. And having lens for it is so much fun! Good choice with a Canon too, I've had a lot of luck with all of my Canon cameras.
