The Rankings Game

We are both excited to discover, this morning, that my degree has gone up in value before I even receive it. Thank you, U.S. News and World Report for giving a number to an otherwise immeasurable game. Usually, I loathe you, but today, we love you.

Now, don't let anyone tell you rankings don't mean anything. Because, when they tell you that, they're fibbing. While it may not mean the whole "kit and kaboodle," it sure gets any institution with a number below 10 all in a tizzy. And now, going from numero tres to dos? And leaving Harvard, whom we were tied with last year, in the dust? That's pretty awesome. And then my specialization went from ten to eight, so that's exciting, too.

Let's just hope the powers that be (you know, those people making hiring decisions at local colleges and universities) think it's just as important as I'd like them to.

That'd be awesome.
