A Matter Of Mechanics

It is good to be back in Nashville.

After finding out about Vanderbilt and coming back here soon after, I have felt so different. I cannot explain it, and a large portion of me wants to shove aside the notion simply because I know it will pass soon. But maybe it doesn't have to.

Yesterday, I was giving Natalie a ride in her own car to a meeting at school. It is a relatively new car and this was my first time driving it, so it all felt a little exotic you know? Still has that smell and that feel, handles and buttons all in places unfamiliar to the mechanics of my normal driving routine.

So anyways, I put the car in drive and we're on our way, and as we're pulling down the "hill" outside our complex, I realize something feels kind of funny. Natalie notices I had put the car in manual and I quickly correct my problem. I mean, the car ends up doing most of the work itself whichever way you have it (obviously, she's got a swinger), but it all seems to sound and feel a whole lot better for me in automatic.

Maybe, I'm just a wuss.

Either way, that's what I kind of feel like. I feel like I'm doing the same things I have always done, but it all feels better; there is minimal striving and a lot less control and the effects are a whole lot more comfortable.

I am at ease.

And it's not just finding out about Vanderbilt, it's the path - the steps. And not just these, but the One laying them out for me. I have room to be and become even more in the areas of my life that I am opening up to Him. Strange, how that works.
